Nigerian sensation Ezekiel Nathaniel made a remarkable professional debut at the Euguene Wanda Diamond League, holding his own against a formidable field of the world’s elite 400m hurdlers to secure an impressive third-place finish.

Shaking off any initial jitters, Ezekiel Nathaniel exploded into life showing his talent and composure, crossing the line in a strong time of 47.88 seconds.

Brazil’s Alison Dos Santos, the 2022 World Champion, emerged victorious, clocking a season’s best of 46.65s. He narrowly edged out Olympic champion Rai Benjamin of the USA, who finished a close second with a time of 46.71s.

Despite the immense pressure of his first professional outing, Nathaniel, the reigning NCAA 400m hurdles champion, showcased the form that has made him a rising star.

His performance in Eugene is a strong indicator of his potential to become a consistent contender on the global circuit.

Having already set a new African indoor record in the 400m earlier this year (44.74s) and holding the Nigerian record in the 400m hurdles (47.49s), Nathaniel’s transition to the professional ranks has started on a highly promising note.
