Enyimba’s title hopes were once again thrown into limbo after a 1-0 defeat to Bendel Insurance at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin on Wednesday.
The nine-time Nigeria Premier League champions were aiming to bounce back from a disappointing 2-1 loss to a relegation-threatened Akwa United over the weekend in Uyo. However, their struggles continued as they suffered a second consecutive away defeat, further denting their championship ambitions.
Kayode Solomon netted the decisive goal in the 55th minute, and despite Enyimba’s relentless push for an equalizer, Bendel Insurance’s defense held firm to secure the win.
With this loss, the People’s Elephants have dropped to 10th place on the league table, with 15 games remaining and a total of 45 points still up for grabs. They now trail league leaders Remo Stars by 17 points, significantly diminishing their chances of reclaiming the title.

Beyond the title race, Enyimba also risks missing out on the continental competition, as the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup spots are currently occupied by Shooting Stars and Rivers United.
Meanwhile, the victory lifts Bendel Insurance to 15th place, four points clear of the relegation zone. It marks their eighth win of the season, with their primary focus now on securing survival in the top flight.
