Highly-rated Nigerian striker, Emmanuel Ogbole has made a quick start to life at Libya, scoring on his full debut to secure a 2-0 win for Olympic Azzaweya over Al-Ittihad on Monday.
The talented 21-year-old who was Kwara United’s top scorer and last season’s Nigerian FA Cup golden boot winner, signed for Olympic Azzaweya in the Libyan Premier League during the January transfer window.
After making his debut as a substitute in Olympic Azzaweya’s 1-0 win over Abu Salim, Emmanuel Ogbole earned his first start, as head coach Hamdi Bataw gave him the nod to lead the attack against Al-Ittihad.
Emmanuel Ogbole repaid the trust of the coach by making a swift impression, demonstrating his exceptional quality in the 41st minute as he expertly controlled a loose ball before unleashing a powerful volley from outside the box, giving Olympic Azzaweya a 1-0 lead going into half time.
Al-Ittihad’s attempts to equalize were thwarted by Olympic Azzaweya’s solid defense, and the away team ultimately sealed a 2-0 victory with Tidjani Anaane’s 69th-minute goal to secure all three points and increase their unbeaten streak to ten games.
Following their victory, Olympic Azzaweya have taken top spot in the Libyan Premier League with 24 points from 10 matches, edging out second-placed Swehly SC, who have an outstanding game, by a single point. Al-Ittihad, meanwhile, remain in fourth place with 14 points.
Olympic Azzaweya’s next challenge is a home match against Al Tersana on Friday, while Al-Ittihad seek to bounce back with an away game against Swehly SC on Saturday.
