This achievement follows her groundbreaking success in 2024, where she made history as the first African athlete to win a badminton medal at the Paralympic Games.

At just 18 years old, Mariam clinched the bronze medal in the women’s singles SL3 category at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, defeating Ukraine’s Oksana Kozyna in straight sets.

Regardless of her success in 2024, Mariam has proven with her recent victory that she is not resting on her oars as she is motivated to showcase her exceptional talent while solidifying her place in African badminton history.
