The first leg of Season 3 of the MTN CHAMPS Athletics Classics wrapped up after three thrilling days at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, with the finals of several key events, including the 200m, 800m, 4x100m, and mixed 4x400m relays, bringing the competition to an exciting close.

Sophia Efetobore dominated the Senior Women’s 200m, securing a sprint double with a winning time of 23.72s, adding to her earlier 100m title. Jane Onyeneho (24.58s) and Janet Adesiyan (24.90s) claimed silver and bronze.

Success Oyibu was one of the standout performers of the final day, clocking a personal best of 23.71s to win the Junior Girls’ 200m title. She improved her time in every round and added the gold to her 100m silver. Perezide Sigah (24.24s) and Vivian Iyamu (24.30s) followed.

The Senior Men’s 200m saw Lucky Daje storm to victory in 21.09s, ahead of Emmanuel Ojeli (21.28s) and Augustine Ezuruike (21.53s).

In the Senior Men’s 800m, Hamid Sambo executed a strong finish to win in 1:51.64 (SB)—the fourth-fastest time of his career. Adedokun Ayobami (1:52.12) and Temitope Karounwi (1:52.73) followed.

For the Senior Women’s 800m, Rhoda Adisa pulled away at the bell, crossing the line in 2:06.21. Fatimah Adebayo (2:12.05) and Adeyinka Mulero (2:16.55) completed the podium.

In the Junior Boys’ 200m, David Akhalu clocked a personal best of 21.29s to take the title ahead of Wilfred Awonusi (21.34s) and Eniola Shiro (21.35s).

The Junior Boys’ 800m saw Olaitan Ayomide break the two-minute barrier, winning gold in 1:57.89. Samson Tebowei (1:59.97) and Solomon Okundaye (2:00.16) followed.

In the Junior Girls’ 800m, Kehinde Olude dominated with a 2:17.31 finish. Precious Orogun (2:49.14) and Favour Dio (2:51.17) came in second and third.

The Youth Boys’ 800m was a thriller, as Chukwueweniwe Olisa Emmanuel edged Nwabueze for gold in 2:03.37, just 0.04s ahead. Emmanuel Umeadi (2:05.59) settled for bronze.

In the Youth Girls’ 800m, Elisha Agape struck gold with a personal best of 2:14.90, ahead of Mary Edeh (2:16.48) and Esohe Ugbo (2:29.88).
