Nigeria’s D’Tigress team has narrowed its roster to 12 players for the upcoming FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Antwerp, Belgium.
The team aims to secure one of the 10 remaining tickets to Paris 2024, joining defending champions USA and host nation France.
Head coach Rena Wakama made final cuts from the initial 15-woman list, selecting a group of experienced and proven players.
The final roster features a strong backcourt with guards Ifunaya Okoro, Elizabeth Balogun, and Promise Amukamara, along with sharpshooters Olaoluwatomi Taiwo and Sarah Ogoke. Adebola Adeyeye adds versatility at the small forward position.
Nicole Enabosi, Murjanatu Musa, and Amy Okonkwo bring strength and scoring ability to the forward positions, while seasoned centers Pallas Kunayi-Akpanah, Lauren Ebo, and Blessing Ejiofor anchor the paint.
Players who did not make the final cut are Akaraiwe Nkem, Donagu Regina, and Abiola Olatoyosi.
With a tough group containing Senegal, USA, and Belgium, the D’Tigress need a focused and cohesive unit to achieve their Olympic dream.
The D’Tigress begin their Olympic quest on Thursday against Senegal. They will need to showcase their talent, teamwork, and resilience to navigate a challenging group and earn a spot in Paris.
