Cyriel Dessers is closing in on a lucrative switch to AEK Athens after agreeing personal terms with the Greek club.
The Nigerian striker has verbally accepted a deal worth around £30,000 per week (roughly €1.8 million a year), as AEK make him their top target this summer. The 30-year-old hitman, who scored 51 goals across two seasons in Scotland with Rangers, is now waiting on the two clubs to settle on a transfer fee.
AEK, backed by wealthy shipping tycoon Marios Iliopoulos, are confident of landing Dessers and are preparing a bid believed to be north of £5 million. Rangers are expected to hold out for a strong fee, having spent £4.5 million to bring the striker from Italian side Cremonese in 2023.

The club’s new sporting director, Kevin Thelwell, reportedly sees Dessers’ scoring rate—almost a goal every other game—as a key reason to recoup their investment.
Dessers, who has drawn interest from multiple clubs over recent transfer windows, is back in the spotlight after returning to the Super Eagles setup. He scored in Nigeria’s 2-1 Unity Cup win over Ghana and provided an assist in the draw against Jamaica, boosting his profile just in time for the summer window.
With AEK looking to strengthen ahead of a new campaign and Rangers entering a rebuild under new manager Russell Martin, a deal could be struck soon, potentially adding significant funds to the Scottish side’s reported £20 million transfer budget.
