Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has unveiled his first-ever starting lineup for the crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier against Rwanda’s Amavubi at the Amahoro Stadium, Kigali, opting for an attacking formation.

Notably, Galatasaray striker, Victor Osimhen returns to the starting lineup, replacing Victor Boniface who started the last game against Rwanda, while Ademola Lookman makes his first start since being crowned African Best Player.

Chelle’s 4-2-3-1 formation features Stanley Nwabali in goal, a defensive quartet of William Troost-Ekong, Calvin Bassey, Ola Aina, and Bright Osayi-Samuel, and a midfield duo of Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi. The attack boasts Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon, Ademola Lookman, and Victor Osimhen.

The Super Eagles face a must-win situation against Rwanda’s Amavubi with the game scheduled for 5pm Nigerian time. To keep their 2026 World Cup qualification hopes alive, they must overcome a formidable opponent in a territory where they’ve not had much joy.

Historically, the Super Eagles have never won in Rwanda and will face a Rwandan side that secured four points out of six in their previous encounters during the AFCON qualifiers. As such, the Super Eagles have to be prepared for a challenging task in their bid to revive their World Cup qualification hopes.
