Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey has been voted Fulham’s Player of the Season, earning 39.6% of the fans’ votes to clinch the prestigious award.

Bassey edged out fellow Nigerian international Alex Iwobi, who garnered 21.5% of the votes to finish second, while Antonee Robinson came third with 19.9%. Goalkeeper Bernd Leno finished fourth with 10.9%, and Saša Lukić rounded out the top five with 8.1%.

In his second season at the club, Bassey was a mainstay in Marco Silva’s defence, making 35 Premier League appearances and missing just one match due to card accumulation. His consistency and commanding presence at the back were instrumental to Fulham’s campaign.

Reacting to the award, Bassey expressed his gratitude to his teammates, coaches, fans, and those who have supported his journey.

“Thank you guys for voting me as Player of the Season. Thank God, without Him, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Big ups to my entire team, electric training Aaron, Key Jusball, Eroll Touch, Tuina, and others who’ve helped me even outside the club,” he said in a video shared by the club.

“Thanks also to the coaching staff and the manager for trusting and believing in me. Hopefully, we can achieve great things next season. I truly appreciate all your support.”

Despite Bassey’s stellar performances, Fulham will be disappointed with how their 2024/25 campaign ended. A poor run of form, with just two wins and five losses in their final seven games, saw them miss out on European qualification.
