Nigerian referee Eunice Akintoye Yemisi has been officially appointed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to serve as a match official at the upcoming 2024 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, set to run from July 5 to 26.

Yemisi is one of 46 referees, assistant referees, and Video Assistant Referees (VAR) selected for the high-profile tournament, which will feature Africa’s top female officiating talent.

This year’s tournament sets a new record for officiating personnel, surpassing the 40 officials who participated in the 2022 edition.

The final list comprises 18 referees, 18 assistant referees, and 10 VAR operators representing 30 African nations. Host country Morocco will be the most represented, contributing five match officials.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons are among the 12 nations vying for continental glory, as they aim to capture a record-extending 10th WAFCON title. They have been drawn into Group C alongside Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana, with all group matches scheduled at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium.

Despite remaining 36th position in the latest FIFA World Rankings, Nigeria are still the highest-ranked team in Africa and strong contenders for the trophy in Morocco.
