Joe Aribo and Southampton have secured a return to the English Premier League after defeating Leeds United 1-0 in the English Championship playoffs final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

Adam Armstrong’s 24th-minute decisive goal ensured the Saints’ promotion to the top tier of English football, just one season after their relegation in the 2022/23 season.

Aribo played the full match, receiving a yellow card in the 112th minute for a foul.

Samuel Edozie, a 21-year-old Super Eagles eligible player also earned promotion to the Premier League with Southampton. The former Manchester City academy player replaced David Brooks in the 35th minute but was unfortunately forced off due to injury in the 83rd minute.

After missing out on automatic promotion by finishing fourth behind Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Leeds United, the Saints earned their Premier League spot through the playoffs route.
