Nigeria’s Flamingos have secured a convincing 4-0 win over Algeria’s U-17 Women’s national team in the first leg of their third-round FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne on Saturday.
The Flamingos entered the match needing a victory to boost their chances of qualifying for the U-17 Women’s World Cup alongside hosts Morocco and three other African nations.
Determined to secure victory, the team got off to a flying start, quickly gaining a commanding lead with Queen Joseph netting two goals and Zainab Oluwaseun adding another within the opening 16 minutes, putting the Flamingos 3-0 ahead.

In the second half, Algeria put up a strong defensive effort to avoid a humiliating scoreline that could effectively crush their World Cup aspirations. However, the Flamingos continued to created chances and eventually extended their lead with substitute Aishat Animashaun scoring a late goal to seal the dominant 4-0 win.
Victory for the Flamingos gives them a solid advantage heading into the second leg, set to take place at the Mustapha Tchaker Stadium in Blida on Friday, April 25.
Meanwhile, Algeria’s U-17 women’s team will require another comeback win to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in their history. They previously overcame Botswana with a 4-0 victory in the second leg of their second-round qualifier and will need a similar performance in front of their supporters.
