Nigeria’s national basketball team, D’Tigers, have secured a spot in the 2025 Afrobasket tournament in Angola, marking a significant turnaround in their campaign.
After failing to win a single game in the first window of the qualifiers, D’Tigers approached the second window with renewed optimism under the leadership of Deji Akindele. The team needed victories against Libya and Uganda to stay in contention.
D’Tigers demonstrated remarkable resilience by coming from behind to defeat Libya 75-70, thanks to outstanding performances by Caleb Agada, Talib Zanna, and the rest of the team. They then followed up with an impressive 87-67 win against Uganda, boosting their qualification hopes.

With these two wins, D’Tigers accumulated seven points and required one more victory against Cape Verde to confirm their qualification. However, FIBA have announced that all teams in Group B have qualified for the Afrobasket, rendering the game against Cape Verde inconsequential.
Despite this development, D’Tigers will aim to conclude the second window of the qualifiers on a positive note when they face Cape Verde on Sunday evening at 16:00 Nigerian time.
