Turkish-based Botswana defender Lone Gaofetoge and midfielder Mokgabo Thanda are confident of securing maximum points when they face Nigeria’s Super Falcons later tonight at the Stade El Arbi Zaouli in Casablanca, Morocco, in their second Group B game at WAFCON 2024.
The Mares suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Algeria in their opening match and will be eager to revive their hopes of advancing to the knockout stage by pulling off what would be the biggest shock of the tournament, defeating the Super Falcons.
The Super Falcons, meanwhile, kicked off their “Mission X” campaign in style with a commanding 3-0 victory over Tunisia and will be looking to consolidate their bright start with another impressive performance against Botswana, who are determined to cause an upset.

Speaking ahead of the match, Gaofetoge, who missed Botswana’s opener due to suspension for card offences in the qualifiers, insisted that a win over Nigeria is possible despite the star power in the Falcons’ squad, emphasizing that they are not intimidated.
“I don’t think the names are the problem because we take each and every player as they are; we don’t really look at who they are or what they have achieved. Not to be disrespectful, but we just treat everyone the same,” Gaofetoge told Victor Ademola TV.
Echoing her teammate’s confidence, Thanda stressed that the players are determined to give their all in pursuit of a crucial victory.

“We really need to give our best and hope to collect the maximum points so we can continue in the tournament and reach the next stage,” Thanda said.
“We’ll do all it takes to achieve our goal. We’re going to play our hearts out.”
The determination shown by Gaofetoge and Thanda aligns with the belief of head coach Alex Malete, who has maintained that his team has what it takes to upset the Nigerian side.
