Super Eagles duo Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella have won their second trophy of the season after Bayer Leverkusen emerged victorious in the DFB-Pokal final. They defeated FC Kaiserslautern 1-0 at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.
Granit Xhaka scored the only goal of the match in the 17th minute. However, the team faced a setback when defender Odilon Kassonnou was sent off in the 44th minute with a second yellow card, reducing them to 10 men.

This win is a relief after their 3-0 loss in the UEFA Europa League final on Wednesday to Italian Serie A side Atalanta, which ended their 51-game unbeaten run. Nevertheless, the victory over Kaiserslautern means they remain unbeaten in all German competitions this season.

Boniface, integral to Leverkusen’s campaign this season, was an unused substitute in the game while Tella replaced Jeremie Frimpong in the 90th minute. Their compatriot, Aremu Afeez, was also an unused substitute in the Cup final.
This achievement marks the first-ever domestic double for the club since its establishment in 1904. Moreover, Bayer Leverkusen becomes the first German team to go unbeaten in all competitions in a single season.
