Benin Republic have taken top spot in the Super Eagles’ World Cup qualification group after securing a 2-2 draw against Zimbabwe’s Warriors on Thursday.
Benin Republic initially took the lead during the clash through Steve Mounie, who capitalized on a goalkeeping error by Washington Arubi before the visitors doubled their lead in the 35th minute, courtesy of Douko Dodo’s brilliant finish, assisted by Junior Olaitan.
Just before halftime, Zimbabwe pulled a goal back through Marshall Munetsi, who was assisted by Jordan Zemura, giving the hosts momentum going into the break.

Zimbabwe’s determination to avoid defeat on home turf paid off in the 59th minute when Knowledge Musona scored from a well-planned freekick routine, leveling the scoreline. Shortly after, Marshall Munetsi had another chance to score, but failed to convert, leaving the scores tied.
The 2-2 draw propelled Benin Republic to the top of Group C with eight points from five games, while Zimbabwe remain at the bottom with three points. Benin Republic will aim to secure another result when they host South Africa on March 25, while Zimbabwe will seek a crucial victory against Nigeria’s Super Eagles on the same day.
