Nigerian champions Rivers Hoopers are set to face off against Al Ittihad Alexandria of Egypt in a highly-anticipated matchup today, as both sides battle for top spot in the Kalahari Conference of the 2025 Basketball Africa League.
Both sides have opened their campaign with consecutive victories, defeating Stade Malien and Fath Union Sports de Rabat. While Rivers Hoopers secured a dominant 81-60 victory over the Malians, Al Ittihad defeated them by a close 72-69 scoreline.
On the other hand, Rivers Hoopers’ win over FUS Rabat was a hard-fought 88-82 victory while Al Ittihad also triumphed when they faced the home team, beating them 71-60 in a thrilling matchup.
Rivers Hoopers will be motivated by the impressive form of their top performers including Kevin Amayo who was unstoppable against the hosts, recording 23 points, two rebounds and four assists. Madut Akec is also expected to be in action after his impressive outing against FUS Rabat, winning the Visit Rwanda Player of the game award.

The Kingsmen will however need to be wary of the threat that Al Ittihad also possess in their ranks, including 32-year-old Majok Deng who is widely regarded as one of the best players in the Kalahari Conference. The South Sudanese-Australian has led the way for the Egyptians, winning the Visit Rwanda Player of the game award in consecutive matches.
Rivers Hoopers’ crucial clash against Al Ittihad is scheduled for 5pm, and by 8pm, FUS Rabat will take on Stade Malien, with both teams looking to secure their first victory in the competition.
