BAL25: Rivers Hoopers Edge FUS Rabat 88-82 to Stay Unbeaten in Kalahari Conference

Rivers Hoopers continued their strong start in the Kalahari Conference of the 2025 Basketball Africa League (BAL), securing a hard-fought 88-82 victory over host team Fath Union Sports de Rabat (FUS Rabat) at the Salle Omnisports Moulay Abdellah.

The Hoopers came out firing, outscoring their Moroccan opponents 23-17 in the first quarter and edging the second quarter 27-25. However, FUS Rabat responded with a strong third-quarter performance, outscoring the Nigerian side 25-15 to take a two-point lead into the final quarter.

Undeterred, the KingsMen rallied in the fourth quarter, displaying resilience and composure to overturn the deficit. They outscored the hosts 23-18 in the final stretch to seal an impressive six-point win.

All five Hoopers starters scored double in the victory. Forward Maude Akec led the charge with a game-high 25 points, adding eight rebounds, two assists, and three blocks. Kevin Amayo, who was named the game’s Most Valuable Player, followed with 23 points, four assists, and two rebounds.

Raphael Rashad Putney added 13 points, seven rebounds, and four assists, while Shamba Maxi Munanga contributed 12 points, six assists, and three rebounds. Peter Olisemeka rounded out the scoring with a solid double-double of 10 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

For FUS Rabat, Nisre Zouzoua led the scoring with 21 points. Abdelhakim Zouita added 19, and Badr Eddine Azouga contributed 16 in a valiant effort.

With the win, Rivers Hoopers sit atop the Kalahari Conference standings with two wins from two games. Their next challenge comes against fellow unbeaten side Al Ittihad Alexandria of Egypt on Tuesday, April 8.
