Ademola Lookman’s brilliant goal wasn’t enough to secure a win for Atalanta, as Napoli scored a late goal to take all three points at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo on Saturday.
The match ended 3-2 in favor of Napoli, with Lookman’s goal coming in the 55th minute to level the score at 2-2 after a thrilling first half where Napoli came from behind to lead the game.
Lookman’s impressive goal amidst several Napoli players was almost enough to earn Atalanta a point, but Romelu Lukaku’s header in the 78th minute sealed the win for Napoli.
Prior to Lookman’s strike, Mateo Retegui scored the opening goal for Atalanta in the 16th minute, capping off a brilliant team move before Napoli’s Matteo Politano equalized just 11 minutes later, leveling the score line with his second goal in the Serie A.
Former Manchester United midfielder, Scott Mctominay then blasted Napoli into the lead, with a goal in the 40th minute to complete the comeback before half time.
With the huge result, Napoli remain first in the Serie A with 50 points in 21 games. Meanwhile, Atalanta sit third with 43 points in the same number of games.
Up next for Atalanta is a Champions league clash against Storm Graz on Tuesday as they attempt to end their five game winless run and secure automatic qualification to the Round of 16.
