Serie A side Atalanta have begun talks to sign Nigerian-eligible youngster Honest Ahanor as new left wing back according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Bold Sports reports.
The 17-year-old impressed in Serie A last season, making six senior appearances for Genoa while also featuring for their U-20 team. His performances have attracted interest from several clubs, with Atalanta currently leading the race for his signature.
Atalanta view Ahanor as a direct replacement for Mateo Ruggeri, who is set to join Atletico Madrid in a deal worth around €20 million, with an agreement already in place between both clubs.

AC Milan are also reportedly in discussions to sign Ahanor as they prepare for the departure of Theo Hernandez, who is close to completing a move to Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal after agreeing personal terms and finalising a deal between the clubs.
Genoa are said to value Ahanor between €15 and €20 million and are holding out for this fee, confident in his potential to develop into a top-level player.
Born in Aversa, Italy, Ahanor is of Nigerian descent and remains eligible to represent Nigeria at international level through his parents.
