The Algeria national U-17 women’s team have arrived in Nigeria ahead of their crucial third-round 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifying first-leg clash against the Flamingos. The match is scheduled for Saturday at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State.

The Fennecs touched down in Lagos on Wednesday, giving themselves ample time to acclimatise to the Nigerian weather before the encounter as they look to get a good result ahead of the second leg next week.

Both teams are eager to book a slot for the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, billed to take place from 17 October – 8 November in Morocco later in the year.

To reach this stage of the qualifiers, Nigeria’s Flamingos defeated South Africa 5-1 on aggregate in the second round, after receiving a bye in the first round.

Algeria, on the other hand, edged past Tunisia 1-0 on aggregate in the first round before overturning a first-leg defeat to eliminate Botswana 5-2 on aggregate. After losing 2-1 in Botswana, they bounced back with a dominant 4-0 victory in the return leg.

Algeria will be aiming to qualify for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup for the first time in their history. The Flamingos, however, are seasoned campaigners—having qualified for seven of the eight editions since the tournament’s inception in 2008, missing only the 2018 edition in Uruguay.

The return leg is scheduled for April 25 at the Stade Mustapha Tchaker in Blida, Algeria.
