Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has expressed his desire to secure European football with Fulham, hoping that their impressive form this season will be enough to earn a spot in Europe.

Fulham currently sit 10th in the Premier League with 39 points from 26 matches, just four points behind seventh-placed Chelsea. Moreover, the London side are only five points behind fourth-placed Manchester City, making the race for European qualification highly competitive.

The impressive performance of English teams’ in Europe this season has also opened up the possibility of five teams qualifying for the Champions League. With 12 matches remaining, Fulham are still in the running, and Alex Iwobi is eager to contribute to the team’s European ambition.

Iwobi has been instrumental in Fulham’s success this season, scoring seven goals in the Premier League, making him the team’s second-highest goal scorer behind Raul Jimenez. He has also provided three assists, with only Adama Traore and Antonee Robinson providing more.

As one of the few players in Fulham’s team with European experience, Iwobi is keen to play in Europe again. During his time at Arsenal, he played in the 2018/19 Europa League season, scoring in the final against Chelsea.

Speaking on the Fulham Fix Podcast Episode 32, Iwobi expressed his European ambitions, saying, “Of course, especially for me, I’ve played in it before, so I want to play in Europe again. When you see the quality that we have in training every day, and then we’re getting results against big teams in the league who are competing in big competitions, we feel like we can do so as well. Hopefully, next year we can play in Europe.”

Iwobi also reflected on his experience playing in the Europa League final against Chelsea: “We played in Baku, it was so far to get there, it was a long journey. I thought I was going to start, but then Unai Emery said he was going to go with this team, and I was a bit disappointed, but I said if I got an opportunity to come on, I would prove why I should have started.”

Although Arsenal lost 4-1 to Chelsea in the final, Iwobi cherished the experience, saying, “Unfortunately, we lost to Chelsea, but I was able to get the goal, which obviously is one of the best moments of my career.”

With 12 games left to play, Fulham’s European ambitions are still within reach. However, they will need to rely on favorable results from other clubs while winning their own games to secure a spot among Europe’s elite teams.
