Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, says the Nigerian women’s national football team is fully prepared and determined to reclaim their dominance at the upcoming 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. However, she has called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to play their part by ensuring the team receives the motivation, support, and resources needed to succeed.
The 2025 WAFCON, scheduled to run from July 5 to 26, will see Nigeria chasing a historic 10th continental title, a feat that would further cement the Super Falcons’ legacy as the most successful women’s national team in African football history.
Placed in Group B alongside Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana, Nigeria will begin their campaign on July 6 at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, with their first match coming against Tunisia. The group stage is expected to be competitive, but the Falcons remain firm favourites to progress, given their pedigree and recent performances.

In recent weeks, several Super Falcons players have voiced their frustration over years of inadequate treatment by football authorities, urging the federation to create a more conducive environment that enables them to succeed on the continental stage. These concerns have cast a shadow over Nigeria’s preparations, with many calling on the NFF to treat the women’s team with the same seriousness as their male counterparts.
Ajibade echoed these sentiments in a recent interview with the Super Falcons Show, stressing the importance of full administrative backing.
“There’s a lot of confidence in camp and we’re committed to our goal. We all understand what’s at stake,” Ajibade said.

“Every player heading to the tournament wants to compete and win. We will give everything on the pitch, but we also know that success depends on both internal and external factors.”
The 24-year-old forward emphasised that while the players are mentally and physically ready, off-the-pitch issues could impact team morale and performance.
“We’ll continue to do our part as players, but we hope everything behind the scenes is properly handled to help us perform at our best and ultimately bring the trophy home.”
The Super Falcons of Nigeria are aiming to bounce back after missing out on the title in the last edition, where they were eliminated by host nation Morocco in the semifinals. With the tournament returning to North Africa, the team is hoping to rewrite the narrative and restore Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football.
