Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has matched his 2023/24 season goal tally after scoring a brace in Atalanta’s 5-0 demolition of Empoli on Sunday—achieving the feat 16 games sooner.
Lookman’s two goals against Empoli took his tally to 17 for the season, equaling his total from the previous campaign across all competitions.
In his second season at Atalanta (2023/24), Lookman registered 17 goals and 10 assists in 45 appearances, playing a pivotal role in the club’s UEFA Europa League triumph and Champions League qualification.

His numbers could have been even higher, but his national team duties at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he scored three goals to help Nigeria reach the final, and injuries forced him to miss 11 matches in all competitions.
This season, Lookman has already surpassed his debut campaign tally (15 goals and six assists in 33 games) with four matches to spare. At the time, it was his best-ever club season, having never hit such heights at his previous teams. His steady improvement in Serie A has cemented his status as a top-tier player.
While his assist numbers (7) are currently behind last season’s total (10), his current form suggests he can close the gap with the number of games left. Lookman is poised to surpass last season’s goals feat when they take on Venezia on Saturday.
Since moving to Italy, Lookman has emerged as one of the best players in Serie A and on the global stage. He finished 14th in the recent Ballon d’Or voting and was crowned Africa’s Best Player at an awards ceremony in Morocco this January.

Given his outstanding performances, the Atalanta star is expected to attract interest from Europe’s elite clubs. Last season, teams like Liverpool, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Newcastle United were among those keen on securing his signature.
